Jamboree Roundup: Timberlane comes back to beat Manchester Central at Queen City Jamboree
The football season in New Hampshire unofficially kicked off Friday at the Queen City Jamboree.
MANCHESTER – A pair of tipped passes led to two touchdowns, but it was an extra point that was the difference Friday in Timberlane Regional High School’s 13-12 win over Manchester Central at the Queen City Jamboree.
Central got the first points of the scrimmage – which consisted of two, 12-minute quarters – when a pass from Matt Gilroy to McHale Nmama hit off Nmama and went to Jeremy Chandler, who caught the ball in the end zone to give the Little Green a 6-0 lead.
Timberlane answered with 4-yard touchdown run by Dan Hayes, but Central responded with a 55-yard drive capped by a 3-yard scoring pass from Gilroy to Nick Olibrice.
That made it 12-7 Central with 3:35 to go in the first quarter, but the Owls took the lead for good when a deep pass from Hayes hit off the shoulder pad of Jacob Post and bounced right to Cam Lovett. The sophomore corralled the ball and raced to the end zone for a 79-yard touchdown.
It wasn’t all good news for Timberlane, however, as Post had to be helped off the field on the Owls’ next possession. The senior running back appeared to be favoring his left leg and did not return.
Salem 20, Goffstown 6
The Blue Devils got rushing touchdowns from three different players and the defense made a stand inside its own 10-yard line to pick up the win over the Grizzlies. It was the third year in a row the teams have played in the jamboree, with each side winning once to go with one tie.
Josh Sibanda opened the scoring for Salem with a 14-yard touchdown run 32 seconds into the second quarter. But after Goffstown’s Carter Chouinard returned the ensuing kickoff to the Salem 45, the Grizzlies needed five plays to find the end zone on a 3-yard run by Carter Cormier.
Salem blocked the extra point to keep a 7-6 lead and answered with a 13-play, 70-yard drive, highlighted by a 27-yard run by Sibanda on second-and-26 at Goffstown’s 31. Two plays later, Adam Maroun ran in from a yard out to make it 13-6 with 3:33 left.
Goffstown fumbled on the first play after the touchdown, with Salem’s Mike Langmaid recovering, and Riley Mulvey ran it in from 20 yards out two plays later to give the Blue Devils a two-score lead.
The Grizzlies got the ball back with 2:27 left and put a drive together, but turned the ball over on downs at the Salem 9-yard line with one second left.
Nashua North 13, Manchester Memorial 6
Austin Ouellette turned a short pass from Mike Loveless into a 56-yard touchdown to give the Titans a comeback win over the Crusaders.
Ouellette also had an interception and recovered a fumble, and Brian Montminy added a 23-yard touchdown run for North.
Memorial scored on the opening drive of the scrimmage, getting a 12-yard touchdown run from Chris Coburn to put the Crusaders up 6-0 with 6:50 left in the first quarter.
North’s defense tightened up after that and eventually helped the Titans get good field position early in the second quarter. A short punt by Memorial put North on the Crusaders’ 36, setting up Montminy’s touchdown.
After another Memorial punt, North took over at its own 22. A 16-yard run by RJ Jenkins helped the Titans move the ball near midfield, setting up Ouellette’s winning catch-and-run with 5:41 to play.
Bedford 35, Londonderry 0
Conor Robert ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more as the Bulldogs rolled past the Lancers.
Bedford got the scoring started on the first play from scrimmage, as Thomas Norfleet went 67 yards for a score just 17 seconds into the first.
The Lancers struggled to move the ball, as the rest of the quarter was played on the Londonderry side of the field. The Bulldogs went up 14-0 on their third possession, as Robert connected with Noah Chaberek for a 33-yard score.
An interception by Spencer Adams set up a 29-yard scoring run by Robert, and after a Londonderry punt, Robert found Cole Glennon for a 16-yard touchdown to make it 28-0 with 10:46 left. Robert added a 12-yard touchdown run with three minutes left to close out the scoring.
Souhegan 16, Concord 13
Trey Johnson did all the scoring for the Sabers, as they scored twice in the first quarter and held off the Crimson Tide late for the win.
Johnson put Souhegan on the board with a 5-yard touchdown run and laid out in the end zone to make a diving catch on an 18-yard touchdown from quarterback John Lohnes. Johnson added the two-point conversion that ended up being the difference.
Concord got a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs from Gavin Moody and Seth Malachi, the second of which made it a three-point game with 27 seconds left in the first.
There was no scoring in the second quarter and Souhegan’s Max Leonard intercepted Concord’s Zach Miles with three seconds left to end the Tide’s final drive.
