The sophomore knew her Mascenic Regional High School field hockey team needed her to forget the fatigue of double overtime and keep going.
So as teammate Ava Haavisto sent the ball down field, Saari burst past Hopkinton’s last line of defenders, giving herself plenty of space to keep possession of the ball while running at top speed.
With three Hawks players on her heels, Saari got into the circle and put the ball in the near corner to give No. 3 Mascenic a 3-2 victory over No. 2 Hopkinton in Wednesday’s Division III semifinal at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter.
