The Nashua High School South girls lacrosse team is off to one of its best starts over the last 15 years, and this week, the Panthers made their way into the NHHSSports Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll.
South, which is 6-0 in Division I and averaging almost 15 goals per game, moved into the No. 7 spot in the top 10, the only new team this week, as the top five all held on to their spots.
This week’s poll was the closest for the top spot, with Bishop Guertin edging Bedford by one point to remain at No. 1 for the third straight week. The Cardinals will be busy during vacation week, hosting Merrimack (Tuesday) and Dover (Wednesday) before Saturday’s out-of-state game against Moses Brown (Providence. R.I.).
Bedford, which came in at No. 2 for the third week in a row, will head to Souhegan for a 4:30 p.m. start Monday and then travels to Londonderry on Friday. Portsmouth, the top Division II team, again came in at No. 3 and the Clippers face a tough week against other division contenders, with games against Windham (5:30 p.m., Monday), at Hanover (Wednesday) and Hollis Brookline (Saturday).
Pinkerton stayed at No. 4 and will host Londonderry (4 p.m., Monday) and Concord (Wednesday). Windham rounded out the top five for the second-straight week, as the Jaguars will also host Kennett on Thursday.
Souhegan moved up a spot to No. 6, and along with facing the Bulldogs, will travel to face South on Saturday. The Panthers, meanwhile, will take on Nashua North at 6 p.m. on Monday. Exeter dropped two spots to No. 8, and the Blue Hawks go on the road twice this week, heading to Dover for a 4 p.m. start Monday and then going to Nashua North on Friday.
Hollis Brookline climbed up one spot to No. 9 and the Cavaliers are off until Saturday’s game at Portsmouth. Londonderry dropped to 10th and has games against Pinkerton and Bedford this week.
