Coming off a historic win, the Nashua High School South girls lacrosse team made a historic move in this week’s NHHSSports Coaches Poll.
The Panthers knocked off Pinkerton for the first time in 16 years and then jumped four spots in the poll, moving into the No. 4 spot for the first time.
Portsmouth remained at the top spot for the third week in a row, getting all but one first-place vote. The Clippers are coming off a pair of dominant wins over Derryfield and Nashua North, and will open the week hosting Salem before Wednesday’s showdown at Bedford.
The Bulldogs remained at No. 2 for the fourth-straight poll, getting the other first-place vote, after getting wins over Bishop Guertin and Nashua North last week before dropping their first game at Lincoln-Sudbury. Bedford goes to Souhegan on Monday before hosting Portsmouth and then travels Sunday to face La Salle Academy in Providence.
Bishop Guertin held on to the third spot, bouncing back from the loss to Bedford with wins over Exeter and Moses Brown, from Providence. The Cardinals take on South on Monday and will play at Merrimack on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Panthers host Windham on Tuesday and then square off against North on Thursday.
Bow rounded out the top 5 for the second week in a row while off for spring vacation week. The Falcons have a busy week, with three home games against Milford on Monday, Plymouth on Wednesday and Coe-Brown on Friday. Dover moved up a spot to sixth this week coming off wins over Winnacunnet and Merrimack. The Green Wave look to extend their win streak beyond five games as they host Londonderry on Monday, go to Concord on Wednesday and return home Friday to take on Spaulding.
Souhegan dropped three spots to No. 7 after losing to Pinkerton last week before bouncing back with a win over Salem. After hosting Bedford on Monday, the Sabers go to Exeter on Wednesday and then take on Concord at home on Friday. Pinkerton drops two spots to No. 8 following a 2-1 week that also saw the Astros beat Londonderry; they host Merrimack on Monday, then go on the road to face the Lancers on Wednesday before hosting Methuen (Mass.) on Saturday.
Windham ended up in ninth this week after going 3-0 last week against Spaulding, Coe-Brown and Oyster River-Newmarket. The Jaguars have another busy week, as they host Timberlane on Monday before going to South on Tuesday, and then return home to face Hanover on Friday. The Bears jumped back into the poll this week at No. 10 following wins over Timberlane and Londonderry. They’ll host Merrimack Valley on Wednesday before making the trip to Windham.
