A week after an overtime win against Bishop Guertin, the Panthers blanked Keene on Saturday to go to 2-0 and jumped three spots in the NHHSSports Football Coaches Poll as a result.
Bedford remained at No. 1, getting 12 first-place votes, after going out of state to beat Thornton Academy, of Saco, Maine. The Bulldogs play their third straight road game to open the season when they head to Nashua to face Bishop Guertin on Saturday night.
Londonderry picked up two first-place votes and remained at No. 2 in the poll after falling to St. John’s Prep, of Danvers, Mass., last week. The Lancers travel to face Concord on Friday night.
Pinkerton and Exeter held on to Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, with the Astros thumping Portsmouth-Oyster River and the Blue Hawks doing the same to Nashua North. Pinkerton plays at Windham on Saturday while Exeter hosts Portsmouth-Oyster River, also on Saturday.
Alvirne climbed into the top five, ending up at No. 5 following its win over Salem; the Broncos will host Timberlane on Friday night. Plymouth also moved up a spot to No. 6 after its win over Kennett; the Bobcats go on the road to Trinity on Friday night.
South takes the No. 7 spot, with a home game against Lowell (Mass.) on Friday night, and Windham held on to No. 8 following a loss to Malden (Mass.) Catholic last week.
Salem, which dropped to No. 9 after its second straight loss, will travel to Dover on Friday night while Pelham, which moved back into the poll at No. 10, goes to Hanover for a Friday night game.
