Pinkerton boys track dominates on its way to 3rd straight D1 indoor title

The Pinkerton Academy boys track team won eight events, including three by junior Jason Robie, as the Astros dominated the field Sunday on their way to their third-straight Division I indoor championship at Plymouth State University.

Robie took first in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs and also helped the 4×800-meter relay team to a win in a race that was held Feb. 1 at the University of New Hampshire. Robie’s time of 8 minutes, 34.55 seconds, in the 3,000 set a D1 record, breaking the time of 8:42.52, set by Bishop Guertin’s Francis Hernandez in 2009.

Thomas Blaszka (shot put), John Child (55 hurdles) and Joe Gustavson (600) also had first-place finishes for Pinkerton.

Ceasar Flahn picked up two wins for Manchester Central, finishing first in the 55 dash and the long jump.

Winnacunnet’s Owen Janetos won the 300 dash in 34.85 seconds, breaking the state record of 35.02, set by Central’s Dominique Worsley in 2005.

Pinkerton recorded 131 points, the most scored in an indoor championship, while Alvirne was second with 33 points and Nashua North finished third with 31. Bishop Guertin (29) and Winnacunnet (25) rounded out the top five.

The Astros have also won six of the last seven, and nine of the last 11, D1 indoor titles, finishing second in the two other years.
