The Pinkerton Academy boys lacrosse team was able to hang on to the top spot in this week’s NHHSS Coaches Poll heading into one of the biggest games of the year.

The Astros remained at No. 1 after wins over Nashua North and Exeter, and despite a loss to Lincoln-Sudbury, while Bishop Guertin closed the gap between the two this week. The Cardinals picked up wins over Bedford and Concord while falling to Needham by a goal. The Astros and Cardinals will meet on Tuesday at Stellos Stadium in the second game of a girls-boys varsity doubleheader.

Exeter stayed at No. 3 after a one-goal loss to Pinkerton and the Blue Hawks travel to face Nashua South on Monday before hosting Cohasset and Dover to end the week. Derryfield remained at No. 4 after two close wins over Goffstown and Winnacunnet, and the Cougars will put their win streak on the line Monday at Westwood and Friday against Portsmouth.

After opening the season with two wins, Portsmouth jumped up a spot to No. 5, while Londonderry slipped to No. 6 after dropping its opener to Concord. The Lancers will take on No. 7 Souhegan on Monday.

South picked up a win over Winnacunnet to jump up to No. 8, while Concord, coming off the win over Londonderry, joined the top 10 for the first time at No. 9. Bedford fell to No. 10 after dropping its first two games, while Dover fell out of the top 10.
