With two weeks left to go in the regular season, the battle for one of the eight postseason spots in the American Legion senior tournament is heating up.
Here’s a look at where the teams in each district stand going into Monday’s games.
District A
- Bedford (9-1)
- Sweeney (8-2)
- Lebanon (6-2)
- Plymouth (6-4)
In contention: Milford (5-4), Goffstown (4-4), Concord (4-5).
Work to do: Keene (1-7), Jutras (1-9), Laconia (0-6).
Bedford has won nine in a row since its only loss of the season, a 1-0 setback against Sweeney on June 16. Post 54 has averaged 13 runs in those nine wins, while allowing a total of 27 runs in those games. … Sweeney’s two losses this season have come to Milford and Goffstown. Post 2 will have a chance at revenge against Milford on Monday. … The teams remaining on Lebanon’s schedule are a combined 49-40. Take out a game each against Keene and Laconia, and its 48-27. … Like Sweeney, Plymouth’s four losses have come against teams currently on the outside of the postseason, including a doubleheader sweep against Goffstown. Post 66 still has to play Bedford and Sweeney twice.
District B
- Rochester (9-1)
- Exeter (7-3)
- Londonderry (7-3)
- Nashua (6-3)
In contention: Hudson (4-3), Dover (4-5).
Work to do: Merrimack (2-5), Derry (2-5), Portsmouth (3-7), Salem (0-9).
Rochester’s only loss of the season was a 3-2 defeat at Nashua on June 26. Only one other time this season has Post 7 scored fewer than seven runs – a 4-3 win over Exeter in 14 innings on June 17. … After that loss to Rochester, Exeter won six games in a row, outscoring opponents 41-16. In its last three games (1-2), Post 32 has been outscored 22-18. … Londonderry’s three losses have come against opponents it had defeated the first time around, including a doubleheader split with Exeter on Sunday. Post 27 two teams its already defeated this week, Nashua and Salem. … Nashua has won three games in a row, after losing two straight. Before that Post 124 had won two straight after splitting its first two games of the year.
