Playoff roundup: Boys tennis finals set

The Bedford High School boys tennis team will go for its third straight title, after beating Portsmouth in the Division II semifinals 8-1 on Thursday.

The No. 2 Bulldogs (15-1) swept the singles matches, including 8-1 wins by No. 1 Mark HoSang and No. 2 McKinley Grimes, and beat the No. 3 Clippers (14-2) by the same count as they did in the regular season. Portsmouth’s only losses this season came at the hands of Bedford.

For the second year in a row, Bedford will face Hanover in the final, which is scheduled for May 29. No. 1 Hanover (15-0) defeated No. 5 Lebanon, 7-2, in the other semifinal.

While Bedford won last year’s final matchup, Hanover handed the Bulldogs their only loss of this season. The teams will meet at 4 p.m. at The Derryfield School.

Division I

No. 2 Exeter (15-1) advanced to the final for the third straight year by beating No. 3 Concord 6-3 on Thursday. The Blue Hawks, who lost both championship matches, will face No. 1 Londonderry, which beat No. 4 Keene, 7-2, in the other semifinal.

Londonderry (16-0) defeated Exeter in the final two years ago for its first team championship. The two teams will meet on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Bedford’s County Road Courts.

Division III

No. 1 Bow (15-0) returned to the final by beating No. 4 Kingswood 8-1 in Thursday’s semifinal. A year ago, the Falcons lost to Gilford in the championship match.

This year, it will be No. 2 Profile in the final with Bow, after the Patriots (13-1) defeated No. 3 Gilford 6-3 in the other semifinal. Bow and Profile will play Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Pinkerton Academy.
