The Hollis/Brookline High School girls soccer team lost for the first time since August on Tuesday. Unfortunately, it came in the Division I semifinals.
The No. 2 Cavaliers failed to get a goal for just the second time this season as they lost to No. 6 Londonderry 1-0 at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter. The loss ends the first season in Division I for H/B (15-2-1), which moved up before the start of this season. The Cavs went unbeaten for 16 straight games (15-0-1), which included a stretch of eight games without allowing a goal. The goal Pinkerton scored in the quarterfinals last Saturday was the only one H/B allowed in October.
Londonderry advances to a championship game for the first time, where it will face No. 1 Exeter, which defeated No. 4 Winnacunnet 5-0 in the other semifinal, at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester.
In Division III girls soccer, No. 1 Campbell remained undefeated by beating No. 4 Prospect Mountain 3-0. The Cougars will take on No. 2 Bow in the championship game on Friday at 7 p.m. at SNHU.
Wednesday’s schedule
Three local teams will try to punch their ticket to their respective division’s championship games on Wednesday.
In Division II boys soccer, No. 4 Bedford (15-2-1) will take on top-seeded Merrimack Valley (17-1) at 6 p.m. at Stellos Stadium in Nashua. In the other semifinal, No. 6 Lebanon (14-4) faces defending-champion Hanover (15-1) at 4 p.m. The winners of those games will meet in the final at 4 p.m. on Sunday at SNHU.
In Division IV boys soccer, No. 4 Wilton-Lyndeborough (15-2-1) goes up against No. 1 Profile (16-1-1) in the semifinals at 6 p.m. at Hanover High School. The other semifinal matches No. 3 Lisbon (15-2-1) against No. 2 Derryfield (15-1-2), which starts at 4 p.m. The winners will play the final at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday at SNHU.
In Division I girls volleyball, No. 4 Alvirne (16-4) will try to knock off defending-champion and top-seeded Londonderry (20-0) in the semifinals at 7 p.m. at Pinkerton Academy. No. 3 Salem (17-3) and No. 2 Spaulding (19-1) will square off in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. The winners will meet in the final at 5 p.m. Saturday at Pinkerton.
