Portsmouth finishes the year atop the NHHSSports Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll

For the first time, the Portsmouth High School girls lacrosse team won the Division I title, and now, the Clippers have also finished the season No. 1 in the NHHSSports Coaches Poll.

Portsmouth received all nine first-place votes in the final poll after defeating Bishop Guertin in the D1 championship game on June 4. The Clippers held the No. 1 spot for all but one week this season, and take the top billing after ending the year third in 2022 and second in 2023.

The Cardinals ended up in second in the final poll while Souhegan, which lost to Portsmouth in the semifinals, climbed up to No. 3, the highest the Sabers have been ranked. Bedford, which lost to Bishop Guertin in the D1 semifinals, came in at No. 4.

Windham, the Division II champion after beating Winnacunnet in the final on June 4, moved up to No. 5 in the final poll, while Pinkerton, which fell to Souhegan in the D1 quarterfinals, dropped a spot to No. 6. The Warriors fell two spots to No. 7 after their loss to the Jaguars.

St. Thomas, which knocked off Gilford in the Division III championship game on June 6, moved into the poll for the first time ever, coming in at No. 8. Hanover, which lost to Winnacunnet in the D2 semifinals, returned to the top 10 at No. 9.

Also joining the poll for the first time ever was Timberlane, which fell to Windham in the D2 semifinals, coming in at No. 10.

Here is the final NHHSS Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll for 2024. These are the top 10 lacrosse teams in the state, with records, first-place votes/points, and last week’s ranking (T=tie).

Dropped out: Nashua South, Exeter, Bow.

Also receiving votes: Nashua South (11-8), 7, 8th; Exeter (10-9), 6, 9th; Bow (16-3), 3, 10th; Gilford (14-3), 1.
