PORTSMOUTH – With a fourth straight trip to the Division I semifinals on the horizon, the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team got off to a good start in the first quarter of Friday night’s quarterfinal game against Salem.

Then the Clippers turned it up a few notches and emphatically put the game away in the second quarter.

Fourth-seeded Portsmouth followed a 15-10 first by pitching a shutout in a 17-0 second quarter on its way towards a 58-24 victory over No. 5 Salem inside Stone Gymnasium. Senior Avery Romps led the way for the Clippers with 14 points, while classmate Margaret Montplaisir added 10.
