Well, that didn’t take long.
The Portsmouth High School baseball team won its fourth straight championship this season, and in the process, the Clippers set a national record for consecutive wins. Portsmouth set the record with its 76th straight win during the season and by the end of the year, it had won 83 in row.
And now another team has already topped it.
Martensdale-St. Marys of Iowa won a playoff game Tuesday night to win its 84th game in a row, beating Twin Cedars-Bussey 10-0. And Martensdale-St. Marys has a chance to extend that streak before its season as done; it will continue playing in the state tournament next week.
Portsmouth will have a chance to catch up when next April, as Iowa’s high school baseball season doesn’t start until May.
