Portsmouth solidifies top spot in this week’s NHHSSports Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll

Last week, Portsmouth moved ahead of Bedford and Bishop Guertin for the top spot in the NHHSSports Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll.

This week, the Clippers wrestled away any doubt who voters felt should be at the top of the rankings.

Portsmouth received all nine first-place votes to finish as the unanimous choice for the No. 1 spot after getting roads wins over Bishop Guertin and Souhegan, wrapped around a road loss to Newburyport (Mass.) last week. This week, the Clippers return home to host Andover (Mass.) on Monday before going to Derryfield on Wednesday and then hosting Nashua North on Thursday.

Bedford and Bishop Guertin split second- and third-place votes, with the Bulldogs coming in at No. 2 and the Cardinals taking No. 3. They’ll get to figure out who goes where when they play Tuesday in the late game of a varsity doubleheader at Bedford. The Bulldogs will also host Nashua North on Friday before going to Lincoln-Sudbury (Mass.) on Saturday, while the Cardinals go to Exeter on Thursday and then host Moses Brown, of Providence, on Saturday.

Souhegan held on to the fourth spot despite dropping its only game of the week. The Sabers will look to bounce back Wednesday when they host Pinkerton, and Friday, when they go to Salem. Bow moved up to round out the top five and the Falcons will be off until May 1.

Pinkerton dropped one spot to No. 6 and the Astros were scheduled to play Londonderry early on Monday before games at Souhegan on Wednesday and at Nashua South on Friday. After a week on the outside, Dover jumped back into the poll after winning three games last week. The Green Wave host Winnacunnet on Tuesday before traveling to Merrimack on Thursday.

Windham moved into the poll for the first time this season, as the Jaguars jumped into a tie for eighth with Nashua South, which fell two spots. Windham has a busy week, going to Spaulding on Monday, followed by home games against Coe-Brown (Tuesday) and Oyster River-Newmarket (Thursday). Meanwhile, the Panthers have just one game this week, as they’ll host Pinkerton on Friday.

Hollis Brookline dropped to No. 10 in the poll this week and will host Goffstown on Monday before going to Londonderry on Wednesday.
