Portsmouth’s Glynn named New Hampshire Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year

Joey Glynn, of Portsmouth High School, has been named Gatorade’s New Hampshire Boys Basketball Player of the Year, The Gatorade Company announced on Monday.

Glynn, a senior for the Clippers, helped lead his team to a 21-0 record and the Division I championship on Saturday, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the 63-40 win over Bedford. For the season, he averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds while being named Division I first-team all-state last week.

“Joey Glynn is the best big man in the state,” Portsmouth coach Jim Mulvey said in the press release. “He consistently brings his greatest effort night in and night out. He is the best rebounder in the state and one of the best scorers. He is a matchup nightmare.”

As a four-year varsity player, Glynn played in the championship game each year, as the Clippers were 2-2 in the finals, winning Division I and II over the last two seasons. Portsmouth holds a 43-game winning streak that it will take into next season.

Glynn is the second Portsmouth player to win the award, joining Reuben Taylor, who won for the 1994-95 season.
