- When: Friday, 7 p.m. at North Sutton.
- Last Game: Newport lost to Bishop Brady in the quarterfinals, 46-20; Kearsarge beat Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough, 37-14.
- Last Meeting: Newport won 21-14 on Sept. 3, 2016.
- FYI: Newport’s opening-day win last year got the Tigers into the playoffs over the Cougars … the Tigers had advanced to the division title game the previous two years, winning it all in 2015 and losing to Campbell in 2014 … Kearsarge was in its first season in D3 last year after making the D2 playoffs in 2014 and 2015.
Raymond (0-0) at Campbell (0-0)
- When: Saturday, 1:30 p.m. at Litchfield.
- Last Game: Raymond beat Farmington-Nute, 22-7; Campbell lost to Stevens in the quarterfinals, 32-0.
- Last Meeting: Campbell won 39-6 on Sept. 2, 2016.
- FYI: Tona McCarthy enters his first game as the head coach for Raymond … Campbell has nine starters back on each side of the ball, including running back Ryan Yanuszewski … the Cougars have never lost to the Rams.
Fall Mountain (0-0) at Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough (0-0)
- When: Saturday, 12 p.m. at Meredith.
- Last Game: Fall Mountain lost to Mascoma Valley 19-12; Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough lost to Stevens in the final, 46-20.
- Last Meeting: Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough won 48-6 on Sept. 3, 2016.
- FYI: Fall Mountain also has a new head coach in Orion Binney, and has just one senior on its roster … the Wildcats have lost 18 straight games, with their last win coming Oct. 18, 2014 … ILM has finished second in the last two division title games and returns one of the top players in the division in Andrew Brothers.
Farmington-Nute (0-0) at Bishop Brady (0-0)
- When: Saturday, 2 p.m. at Memorial Field, Concord.
- Last Game: Farmington-Nute lost to Raymond, 22-7; Bishop Brady lost to Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough in the semifinals, 34-28.
- Last Meeting: Bishop Brady won 49-0 on Sept. 3, 2016.
- FYI: Farmington-Nute enters the season having lost eight games in a row … depth was an issue last season for Bishop Brady and it could be again this year … the Giants have had their season ended in the playoffs by ILM in each of the last two years.
Somersworth (0-0) at Winnisquam (0-0)
- When: Saturday, 1 p.m. at Tilton.
- Last Game: Somersworth lost to Monadnock in the quarterfinals, 42-0; Winnisquam lost to Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough in the quarterfinals, 42-0.
- Last Meeting: Winnisquam won 34-19 on Sept. 2, 2016.
- FYI: The only opening matchup of playoff teams from a year ago, both the Hilltoppers and the Bears will be in contention again this season … Somersworth returns a handful of key seniors, including Ray Mills and Zach Andrews … Winnisquam, which has beaten the Hilltoppers in each of the last two seasons, could have issues with depth this year.
Monadnock (0-0) at Newfound (0-0)
- When: Saturday, 1 p.m. at Bristol.
- Last Game: Monadnock lost to Stevens in the semifinals, 26-21; Newfound lost to Newport 48-30.
- Last Meeting: Monadnock won 49-0 on Sept. 2, 2016.
- FYI: Ryan Avery takes over as the Huskies’ head coach after serving as an assistant at Monadnock … the Huskies lost a lot of skill from last year’s team that went 9-1 and will look to quarterback Tim Santaw to lead the way … Newfound found ways to put up points last year, averaging 25 points per game.
Franklin (0-0) at Epping-Newmarket (0-0)
- When: Saturday, 1 p.m. at Epping.
- Last Game: Franklin lost to Campbell, 32-14; Epping-Newmarket lost to Winnisquam, 20-16.
- Last Meeting: Franklin won 48-6 on Sept. 3, 2016.
- FYI: Franklin will play its first game under head coach Jeff Davis … the Golden Tornadoes scored 24 or more points in four games last year, and 14 or fewer in the other four … the Blue Devils have a lot of experience back on offense, led by quarterback Jake Bisaillon and receivers Noah Robinson and Devon Titus.
Stevens (0-0) at Mascoma Valley (0-0)
- When: Saturday, 1 p.m. at Canaan.
- Last Game: Stevens beat Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough in the final, 46-20; Mascoma Valley beat Fall Mountain 19-12.
- Last Meeting: Stevens won 43-6 on Sept. 2, 2016.
- FYI: The defending champion Cardinals take on a new look this season, after losing a lot of key contributors to graduation … Stevens also lost quarterback Henri Bourque, who would have been a junior, to prep school … since winning eight games and reaching the Division VI final in 2012, Mascoma’s win total has dropped by a game each year, down to two last season.
