QCFJ Roundup: Lucontoni kicks Bedford football past Salem
MANCHESTER – Madison Lucontoni kicked a 40-yard field goal with 35.3 seconds left to lift the Bedford High School football team to a 24-21 win over Salem in Friday’s Queen City Football Jamboree at Gill Stadium.
Lucontoni’s kicked help complete a comeback that saw the Bulldogs scored 17 unanswered points after falling behind the Blue Devils 21-7 in the first of two 12-minutes quarters.
Bedford started the scoring when Lucien Mumpini returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown just 14 seconds into the scrimmage.
But Salem responded with 21 straight points, as Riley Mulvey rushed for touchdowns of 5, 4 and 27 yards to give the Blue Devils the lead.
After Mulvey’s third touchdown, Bedford quarterback Thomas Morgan connected with Harrison LeGoullon for a 51-yard touchdown that made it 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.
The teams traded punts before a fumble by Salem quarterback Kyle Poulin was recovered by Bedford’s Cole Wheeler at the Blue Devils’ 5-yard line. Ryan Toscano scored on the next play to tie the scrimmage at 21.
Salem answered with a nine-play, 47-yard drive that ended at the Bedford 9-yard line. On the drive, running back Josh Maroun went down with a left knee injury and didn’t return.
The Bulldogs were able to move into field goal range for Lucontoni thanks in part to a 29-yard completion from Morgan to Tim Greene.
Manchester Central 26, Souhegan 12
Alex Hawkom threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Little Green’s offense got off to a fast start against the Sabers.
Hawkom found Miguel Gensee for a 36-yard touchdown on Central’s first drive and then connected with Nick Olibrice for a 9-yard score to give the Little Green a 14-0 lead. The Central quarterback also scored on a 3-yard touchdown run while Emmanuel Munyanya added a 1-yard scoring run to go with 72 yards rushing.
Souhegan got a 68-yard touchdown pass from Luke Civiello to Trey Johnson in the final minute of the first quarter, but Civiello was hit hard on the throw and didn’t return on offense until the Sabers’ final drive. The senior scored on a 5-yard run on the final play to finish out the scoring.
Concord 19, Milford 12
Zach Miles ran for two touchdowns and Isaac Gladey added a score as the Crimson Tide was able to hold off the Spartans.
The teams were scoreless at the end of the first quarter, after Milford had a 15-play drive that used up almost nine minutes. But the Spartans were only able to move to the Concord 38-yard line, despite picking up two fourth downs, and turned the ball over.
On the first play of the second, Gladey scored from nine yards out to make it 7-0. The Spartans answered with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 27-yard touchdown run by Gavin Urda.
Urda finished with two rushing touchdowns for Milford, but it was Miles’ two scores, from 30 and 22 yards, respectively, that put it away for Concord.
Goffstown 7, Timberlane 0
The Grizzlies’ defense stopped the Owls on their first possession inside the Goffstown 10-yard line and Jack Stinnett scored on a 3-yard run to give the Grizzlies the only points of the scrimmage.
Goffstown’s Michael Levesque ended another long Timberlane drive by picking off quarterback Dan Hayes, as the Owls were able to get past midfield on three of four possessions.
Jarrett Henault was forced into duty at quarterback on Goffstown’s first drive after starter Charlie Keith was shaken up on a play and held out the rest of the way.
Bishop Guertin 21, Manchester Memorial 0
The Cardinals were able to turn a couple of short passes into big touchdowns against the Crusaders defense.
Hayden Moses found Joey Lupo for a short completion on Bishop Guertin’s first play on offense, and Lupo raced 58 yards for the score just 1:41 into the scrimmage. Moses later connected with Brendan Callahan, who broke a tackle and outran the Memorial defense for a 91-yard score.
Bishop Guertin’s defense also withstood a 16-play drive by Memorial that took up over eight minutes of the second quarter and ended at the Cardinals 10-yard line. Eight plays later, Joey DaSilva scored from 33 yards out to make it 21-0 Bishop Guertin with 21.9 seconds remaining.
Trinity 14, Manchester West 8
The Pioneers got two rushing touchdowns from John Thibault to come back from an early deficit and beat the Blue Knights.
Thibault scored on runs of 6 and 18 yards and quarterback Foster Stacey added a two-point conversion as Trinity did all its scoring in the second quarter.
West opened the scoring off a Trinity turnover early in the scrimmage, as Jaymeson Maheux ran in from 19 yards out and ran in the two-point conversion.
