MANCHESTER – The 2014 Queen City Football Jamboree is in the books and here’s a quick look at how each scrimmage unfolded.
Merrimack 21, Souhegan 0
Justin Grassini led the way for the Tomahawks, as the sophomore quarterback tossed three touchdown passes, including a 27-yard strike to Andy DeGregorio that put Merrimack up three scores. DeGregorio stretched out at the end of the run to get the ball across the goal line. Merrimack’s defense, which struggled mightily at times last year, kept Souhegan from picking up any big gains. The Sabers got tough yards on the ground from Cam Kinney and Tyler Howard. The two teams played each other for the first time since the Battle for the Milk Jug, their Thanksgiving Day series, came to an end in 2012.

Salem 21, Trinity 8
Austin Homsey returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to put Salem up 7-0, and it was all Blue Devils in the first quarter, as they went up 21-0 on the Pioneers. Homsey added a 66-yard touchdown catch-and-run, taking a short pass from quarterback John Cerretani and outrunning the Trinity defense. Charles Sibanda added a 35-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Salem almost made it a 20-point win, but what would have been a 55-yard touchdown run by Matt Loffredo was called back on a block in the back that took place 30 yards behind the play.
Manchester Memorial 20, Manchester West 12
Memorial jumped out to a 20-0 lead, but West was able to get on the board with a couple of scores thanks to some gutsy play from quarterback Zach Allard. The senior signal caller hit Prince Gbaley for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 3:46 left to play, and after the Blue Knights got the ball back, Allard found Jhoneston Goncalves open over the middle for another 20-yard score with 1:46 remaining.

Goffstown 15, Timberlane 0
Connor Bourque got the show started for the Grizzlies, carrying the ball twice for 80 yards and a touchdown on Goffstown’s first two plays. At one point, Bourque had touched the ball four times, gained 122 yards and scored two touchdowns. Matt Collins played well at quarterback, filling in for an injured Casey Gervais, considering he started playing the position on Wednesday. Goffstown’s Samuel Heidenreich made a 40-yard field with 3:58 left in the second quarter.
Bishop Guertin 27, Manchester Central 0
The Cardinals defense looked like it was in midseason form, as it kept the Little Green from putting any kind of drive together, and got a touchdown from Chase Hughes when he returned a fumble 42 yards for a touchdown. That put Bishop Guertin up by four touchdowns with 7:16 left to play. Jackson Houseman (7 yards) and Kelvin Rivera (8 yards) each had a rushing touchdown while quarterback J.T. Hiscoe connected with Matt Theriault for an 18-yard touchdown pass. Hiscoe started and got most of the playing time, while Kyle Cushion ran the offense on the final two drives.
Pinkerton 14, Concord 0
The Astros got the better of the Crimson Tide in a rematch of last year’s Division I championship game. Neither offense could move the ball out of the gate, but Pinkerton drew first blood when T.J. Urbanik ended a long drive with a 7-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 wit 4:40 left in the first. The Astros got the ball back, and Jack Hanaway threw a perfect deep ball to Riley Cahill, who was way behind the Concord defense, for the final score with 1:42 left in the first.
