The Souhegan High School boys tennis team took two of three doubles matches to defeat Portsmouth 5-4 in a Class I match on Monday.

The Sabers ended the regular season at 8-6, and the win might have helped them solidify a playoff spot. Going into the week, Souhegan was seventh in the most-recent Class I standings, which are determined using the Heal Point System.

Sam Protzmann and Nishon Radhakrishnan defeated Mike Banister and JT Pearson, 8-4, to win the No. 1 doubles match, and Nick Poulack and Nate Redington won the No. 2 match, 9-7, to break a 3-3 tie after the singles matches.

Protzmann also won the No. 1 singles match, taking an 8-3 win over Portsmouth’s Eric Levenson. Radhakrishnan fell to Banister in the No. 2 match, 8-5, while Poulack lost to Pearson at No. 3, 8-3.

Aron Esposito defeated Redington 8-6 at No. 4, but Souhegan’s Liam Murphy pulled out a win over Tony Pacivlli at No. 5, 9-8 (7-3), and Matt Protzmann defeated Bret Donnermeyer, 8-3, at No. 6.
