Sabers get off to good start

The Souhegan High School boys tennis team opened the season with a win Wednesday, knocking off Con-Val 6-3.

The Sabers dropped the top two singles matches and the No. 1 doubles match, but battled back for their first Division II win of the season.

Souhegan’s Nate Redington pulled out a 9-8 (7-4) win in the No. 3 singles match, beating Jason Garland. Matt Protzmann picked up the win at No. 4, beating Con-Val’s Parker Wheeler 8-3, and Alex Paquin defeated Wil Stinson 8-6 to take the No. 5 match.

David Monleon won the No. 6 match, beating Ben Wescott 8-4. Souhegan’s Nick Poulack dropped the top singles match to William Vallancourt, 8-3, while Liam Murphy fell in the No. 2 match to Cam Walton, 8-2.

Vallancourt and Walton won the No. 1 singles match over Poulack and Redington 8-1, but Souhegan took the other two matches. Murphy and Protzmann defeated Garland and Wescott 8-6 in the No. 2 match while Ben Bacher and Jason Emmond won the No. 3 match 8-0.
