Shake up puts Portsmouth at the top of the NHHSSports Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll
One game into its time in Division I and the Portsmouth High School girls lacrosse team has moved to the top of the NHHSSports Coaches Poll.
The Clippers opened the season with a come-from-behind win over Pinkerton to start the year and they’ll face another big test this week as the top team in the poll for the first time. Portsmouth edged Bedford by two points and Bishop Guertin by four for No. 1.
After their game was cancelled last week, Portsmouth and Bishop Guertin are scheduled to play Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Stellos Stadium. The Clippers also host Nashua North on Monday before going to Newburyport (Mass.) on Thursday and then Souhegan on Friday.
Bedford held on to the No. 2 spot after getting wins in its first three games. The Bulldogs host Pinkerton on Tuesday and then have a week off. Bishop Guertin played just one game in the first week and will go to Salem on Monday and host Westwood (Mass.) on Thursday along with the game against Portsmouth.
Souhegan and Pinkerton switched spots in the poll this week, trading the Nos. 4 and 5 spots. The Sabers split their first two games and are off until they host Portsmouth on Friday. The Astros also went 1-1, and after playing at Bedford on Tuesday, they host Exeter on Friday.
Bow and Nashua South both moved up past Hollis Brookline and finished in a tie for sixth, as both teams are coming off three-win weeks to start the year. The Falcons go to Derryfield on Wednesday and Laconia on Thursday before having 11 days off, while the Panthers host Concord on Monday before going to Dover on Friday.
HB fell to No. 8 after losing to Bow last week, and the Cavaliers will look to bounce back against Windham on Monday before going to Exeter on Wednesday and Manchester Central on Thursday. Hanover remained at No. 9 despite not playing a game; the Bears will start their season Monday against Keene-Monadnock and then go to Kennett on Thursday.
Exeter moves in to the No. 10 spot, replacing Dover; the two teams will battle it out on the field at Exeter on Monday. The Blue Hawks also host Hollis Brookline on Wednesday and go to Pinkerton on Friday.
