Souhegan boys win first outdoor track title

The Souhegan High School boys track team won the school’s first outdoor track title Saturday, winning the Division II meet at Milford.

The title gives the Sabers two this season, after they won their second Division II indoor title in three years, and also finished second in the division at the cross country championship last fall.

Souhegan recorded 80 points to finish 15 ahead of second-place Bedford (65). Lebanon came in third with 53 points while Oyster River (48) and Merrimack Valley (46) rounded out the top five. Milford was seventh with 36 points.

The Sabers had two individual champions, as Tanner Kent won the 400-meter dash in 49.84 seconds and Ben DeForest took first in the 110 hurdles (15.18). DeForest, who is undefeated in the 110 hurdles this spring, was also third in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the high jump, while Kent also helped the 4×800 relay to a win (8:16.18) and ran a leg of the sec0nd-place 4×400 relay.

Jacob Kittredge was second in the 800 while Nathan Kittredge took third in the same event. Bert DeForst finished third in the 300 and the Sabers got fourth places from Patrick Lynch (3,200), Andrew Coates (high jump) and Alex Hodsdon (pole vault). Brian Dworkin came in fifth in the 200 and Jason Bender was sixth in the 3,200.

Bedford won both the 4×100 relay (43.18) and the 4×400 relay (3:31.23) and got a big day from Dylan York, who was second in the 200 and the long jump and third in the 100. Joseph Thibeault finished second in the shot put and Roger Larrivee came in third in the discus and sixth in the javelin.

The Bulldogs got a fourth place from Erik Falkengren (discus) and a fifth place from Thomas Brigham (300 hurdles). Jon Reeks came in sixth in the 400 and the 4×800 relay team also came in sixth.

Milford’s Jarad Asselin turned in two second-place performances, coming in second in the high jump and the triple jump. Parker Lyttle took third in the high jump while the Spartans also got third places from Connor Gosselin (javelin) and Alex Tamulonis (pole vault). Ian Michaud came in sixth in the 110 hurdles and Dylan Phelps took sixth in the shot put.

Lebanon got four first places, including two from Mike Cyphers, who was first in the 200 (22.72) and first in the pole vault (14-7). John Cioffredi took first in the high jump (6-4) and Zander Morrill was first in the shot put (50-4).

Portsmouth’s Shawn Swist came in first in the 300 hurdles (41.47) and teammate Jack Chace was first in the triple jump (42-2.5). Hanover’s Isaiah Fariel won the long jump (21-8.75) and teammate Noah Williams finished first in the 3,200 (9:51.02) while Oyster River’s Ethan Druskat took first in the 100 (11.07).

Coe-Brown got a first place from Jeremy Brassard in the 1,600 (4:26.16) while Plymouth’s Mike Maclean came in first in the 800 (1:57.24) and Con-Val’s Tommy Hughes won the discus (128-7). Merrimack Valley’s Chris Bohi took first in the javelin (166-3).
