Souhegan tennis teams fall to Bedford

Both the Souhegan High School girls and boys tennis teams lost to Bedford on Tuesday.

The Souhegan girls fell to the Bulldogs 7-2 on the road, while the boys dropped a 9-0 decision to Bedford at Jasper Valley.

Emily Parrett had the lone singles win for Souhegan, beating Jacinda Williams, 8-4, in the No. 3 match. Maura Belanger and Rebecca Trouwee pulled out a 9-8 win at No. 3 doubles.

Kirsten Jean won the No. 1 singles match, defeating Emily Readdy, 8-0, and Mackenzie Phelps won the No. 2 match, beating Alex Silva, 8-5. Jean and Williams also won the No. 1 doubles match over Readdy and Silva, 8-5.

Souhegan’s Mia Ommundsen fell in the No. 4 match to Steph Johnson, 8-2. Phelps and Johnson also beat Ommundsen and Parrett, 8-2, in the No. 2 doubles match.

Bedford’s Ally Mahoney knocked off Caroline Hagen, 8-3, in the No. 5 singles match and Ellen Wheeler defeated Trouwee, 8-3, in the No. 6 match.

Bedford improved to 5-1 on the season, while Souhegan dropped to 4-3 in Class I.

BOYS

The Sabers dropped their second match in a row in falling to the Bulldogs, 9-0.

Liam Murphy and Matt Protzmann had the closest match of the day for Souhegan, falling to Taylor Sommerville and McKinley Grimes, 8-5, in the No. 3 doubles match.

Bedford’s Mark Hosang defeated Sam Protzmann, 8-0, in the No. 1 singles match, and Myles Utell topped Nishon Radhakrishnan, 8-0, in the No. 2 match. Hosang and Utell also won the No. 1 doubles match over Sam Protzmann and Radhakrishnan, 8-0.

Jim Delahuntry won the No. 3 match, defeating Nick Poulack, 8-1, while Andrew Weeks defeated Nate Redington, 8-2, at No. 4. Sommerville knocked off Murphy in the No. 5 match, 8-0, and Grimes took the No. 6 match over Matt Protzmann, 8-1.

Delhunry and Weeks also defeated Poulack and Redington, 8-2, in the No. 2 doubles match.

Souhegan fell to 5-2 on the year, while Bedford moves to 6-0 in Class I.
