LONDONDERRY – Jake Holland had been waiting since the first kickoff of the season for a team to kick one to him again.
The Londonderry High School senior got his wish in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Windham.
With the Jaguars kicking off from their own 25 after a deadball personal foul call on a touchdown, Holland field the kick at his own 25, found a seam in the coverage and raced untouched for a 75-yard return for a touchdown.
Add that to a 25-yard return of a punt he blocked in the first quarter, plus an interception that clinched Londonderry’s 35-23 win over Windham, and Holland had himself a pretty nice afternoon. The performance helped the Lancers (4-1) bounce back from last week’s loss to Pinkerton and kept them even in the Division I South Conference standings with the Astros (4-1) and Salem (4-1).
