Top Five Girls Lacrosse Games in 2025

It was a busy spring, as I saw all or parts of 75 games this season, including 20 playoff games, between both boys and girls lacrosse.

There were plenty of good ones, but this list compiles the five best girls lacrosse games that I saw in person in 2025.

No. 5: St. Thomas 15, Gilford 11 (June 10)

The final score may not be as close as other games on this list, but this was an entertaining game played a very high level and in the Division III championship game. St. Thomas took an early lead, Gilford came back and made the second and third quarters feel like it was anyone’s title to win. The Saints were able to pull away in the fourth quarter to get their second D3 title in a row.

No. 4: Hanover 17, Timberlane 15 (April 21)

This game had so many goals, if you turned away for a moment, you probably missed one. Hanover got off the bus slow and Timberlane took advantage, going up 4-0 early and taking a 12-6 lead at halftime. The Bears stormed out of halftime with a 5-0 run to make it a one-goal game, but the Owls regrouped to go up 15-12 heading into the fourth. But from there it was all Hanover, as the Bears outscored the Owls 5-0 in the quarter to get the comeback win.

No. 3: Souhegan 9, Pinkerton 8 OT (June 8)

When these two teams met in the regular season, Pinkerton got out to a lead and Souhegan rallied back. The Sabers had a chance to tie late in regulation, but the Astros held on for a 9-8 win. In the Division I semifinals, Pinkerton led 8-5 with 7:27 remaining, but this time, Souhegan was able to come all the way back. Izzy Stevenson tied it at 8 with 37 seconds left, and after the Astros just missed on a game-winning goal in OT of their own, the Sabers won on a goal by Libby Kennedy with 18.4 seconds remaining.

No. 2: Merrimack Valley 13, Merrimack 10 (June 8)

A No. 3 seed knocking off a No. 2 seed isn’t usually an upset, except for when the team seeded second won by 10 goals during the regular season. That’s what Merrimack did against Merrimack Valley when the teams played on April 25. In the Division II semifinals, the Pride turned the tables, getting out to a good lead before the Tomahawks closed the gap before halftime. In the second half, Merrimack Valley goalie Taylor Gionet stood on her head to keep her side in front and the Pride pulled off the upset to advance to the final for the first time.

No. 1: Souhegan 12, Londonderry 11 OT (May 30)

These two teams met on the final day of the regular season, with Souhegan needing a win to clinch the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and Londonderry needing a win just to clinch a playoff spot. The Sabers led 9-4 late in the third quarter before the Lancers went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-9 lead. Souhegan eventually tied the game at 11 with 27.3 seconds remaining to force overtime. Londonderry had picked up two yellow cards late in regulation and was down two players at the start of overtime. The Lancers killed off both penalties, but couldn’t regain possession and Souhegan’s Libby Kennedy ended it with 1:02 left in OT.
