What’s Going On: No joke, it is really spring sports season

The start of the spring sports regular season is getting closer, despite what the weather forecast might look like.

What’s Going On: No joke, it is really spring sports season

I have an outfit that I wear whenever its time to break out the snowblower and clear the driveway.

Coats, hats, gloves and many layers of clothes, and when I’m done, they all go on a drying rack that gets set up near the door to the garage. And for most of the winter, it stays there, until the next time there’s at least a couple of inches of snow on the ground.

I like to say it stays there, because otherwise, it will jinx things and it will snow a few feet as soon as everything is put away. The reality is I’d rather not have to bring it all back out over and over and over …

Well that definitely wasn’t the case this winter. I used the snowblower maybe four times and the clothes have all been put away since mid-February.

Now here it is, the first day of April – April Fool’s Day, of course – and I might be getting it all out again. Never mind that the grass looks like it might need to be mowed in the next week or two, but I guess I should feel good I didn’t summerize the snowblower yet.

I’m definitely fortunate, living in the Southern part of the state, to not have had to deal with the two-plus feet of snow that our friends up North received a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed that it does actually warm up soon and the snow is soon only a memory.

Spring really is here

How do I know? I’ve been inundated with lacrosse season previews in my email in box.

So far this spring, I’ve heard from 75 percent of the boys coaches and 63 percent of girls coaches. Good numbers for sure, but I think we can get a little closer to 100 percent on both sides.

If you are one of the coaches in the remaining 32 percent that hasn’t gotten back to me, don’t worry, I will be reaching out to you again today.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check your spam folder.

The season previews will begin running later this week, and here is the planned schedule for all preseason content:

  • Division I boys and girls on Thursday.
  • Division II boys and girls on Friday.
  • Division III boys and girls on Saturday.
  • NHHSSports Preseason Watch Lists on Sunday.
  • Preseason NHHSSports Coaches Polls on Monday.

This week’s Ninth State Sports Show: Boys Lacrosse podcast will also be our D3 preview. If you missed the D1 and D2 previews, you can listen to them here.

The Season

Now that the winter edition with the Pinkerton Girls Basketball team has wrapped up, an announcement for the spring will be coming later Monday. Keep an eye on the site or on the social media accounts to see a trailer for The Season.

Support the site

I’ve been very fortunate to be able to do this site for over 14 years now, first as a side project while working at the Telegraph, and then on a more full-time basis for the last eight-plus years.

Now it’s a completely full time.

At the end of last year, the part-time job I was working alongside of this came to an end, and I decided it was time to finally put all of the eggs into this basket. Time to really sink or swim.

I wouldn’t have even considered doing that if it hadn’t been for the great support I already receive from so many people, and for the encouraging feedback I get when I’m out at events and games.

While I try to post as much content as I can for free, pageviews and podcast downloads don’t pay the bills. If you are a fan of the site and haven’t already signed up for a membership, please consider doing so by going here. There are monthly and yearly membership options, and there’s a special option just for lacrosse coverage.

There are a lot of things to go into deciding what games to go to and what stories to write, but memberships are a big one.

Sponsorship options

You can also support the site by sponsoring one of the many features or projects. The two biggest are the podcast and The Season. You can also sponsor the coaches polls or the preseason watch list and all-state teams.

If you’d like more info on being a sponsor, send an email to nhhighschoolsports@gmail.com.

Thanks for being a fan of NH-HighSchoolSports.com and I’m looking forward to a great spring season.
