Windham holds off Dover to keep top spot in NHHSSports Field Hockey Coaches Poll

For the second week in a row, the Windham High School field hockey team remained at the top of the NHHSSports Coaches Poll – barely.

The Jaguars received seven first-place votes, enough to keep Dover at No. 2 for at least another week, as the Green Wave were just two points behind, getting five first-place votes.

Two teams – Bishop Guertin and Concord – returned to the top 10 after dropping out earlier this season, replacing Souhegan and Bedford.

It will be a busy week for many teams, including the Jaguars, who host Londonderry on Tuesday before traveling to Timberlane on Wednesday and Salem on Saturday. Dover plays Wednesday at Winnacunnet and Saturday at Nashua South.

Exeter held on to No. 3 for the second week in a row, as the Blue Hawks will go to Concord on Tuesday, and then host Nashua North on Wednesday and Winnacunnet on Friday.

John Stark remained at No. 4 for the third straight week, as the Generals remain the lone undefeated team in Division II. They’ll face Oyster River on the road on Wednesday and then host Portsmouth on Saturday.

Despite each team dropping its first two games, Winnacunnet stayed at No. 5 and Pinkerton held on at No. 6. The Warriors host Dover on Wednesday and then go to Exeter on Friday, while the Astros have Salem on Wednesday and Londonderry on Saturday.

Oyster River made a big jump, going from 10th to No. 7 this week. The Bobcats will welcome in John Stark on Wednesday and then head to Sanborn on Friday. Kennett dropped one spot to No. 8 and has just one game this week, Saturday at home against Laconia.

Bishop Guertin and Concord, which were both in the preseason poll, moved back in at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively. The Cardinals go to Londonderry on Wednesday and host Merrimack on Thursday, while the Crimson Tide have Exeter on Tuesday and Bedford on Thursday. The two teams then play each other on Saturday in Nashua.
