Windham takes over top spot in NHHSSports Field Hockey Coaches Poll

The Windham High School field hockey team got the job done last week and was rewarded in the latest NHHSSports Field Hockey Coaches Poll.

After knocking off Exeter, 5-0, last Wednesday, the Jaguars jumped up to the top spot for the first time this season, getting eight first-place votes. The Blue Hawks, who had held onto No. 1 for the first two polls, traded places with Windham, falling to No. 3.

Both teams were scheduled to have a three-game week, with Windham going to Pinkerton on Monday, hosting Londonderry on Wednesday and then traveling to Nashua North on Friday night. Exeter was set to host Salem on Monday, go to Dover on Wednesday and host Bedford on Thursday.

The Green Wave held on to the No. 2 spot this week as they remained undefeated. Dover will also play at Londonderry on Monday and at Bishop Guertin on Friday around the game against Exeter.

John Stark and Winnacunnet remained at Nos. 4 and 5, as both have played just two games so far this season. The Generals are scheduled to go to Plymouth on Tuesday and then host ConVal on Friday, while the Warriors play Monday against Merrimack, Wednesday at Nashua South and Friday at Pinkerton.

The Astros stayed at No. 6 this week, despite picking up a few more points, and they go to Merrimack on Wednesday in between the home games against Windham and Winnacunnet.

Kennett jumped up to No. 7, as the Eagles improved to 4-0 in Division II this year. They’ll go on the road Tuesday to take on Berlin and then head to Kingswoond on Friday. Souhegan held on at No. 8, as the Sabers host Derryfield on Monday and Milford on Wednesday before playing at Goffstown on Friday night.

Bedford moved up a spot to No. 9 and play just once this week, as the Bulldogs go to Exeter on Thursday. Oyster River climbed into the top 10 for the first time, claiming the final spot. The Bobcats travel to Kingswood on Tuesday before hosting Milford on Friday.
