Winnacunnet takes over top spot in NHHSSports Field Hockey Coaches Poll for first time

For the third week in a row, there is a different team holding the top spot in the NHHSSports Field Hockey Coaches Poll.

Winnacunnet moves up to the No. 1 spot for the first time after picking up wins over fellow top-10 teams Windham and Concord last week. It’s been a steady rise for the Warriors over the last couple of weeks, as they were eighth in the poll on Sept. 19.

The Warriors play three games this week, starting with a 4 p.m. game against Salem on Monday. Winnacunnet will also host Bishop Guertin on Wednesday and travel to Man. Central-West on Friday.

Exeter held on to No. 2 this week, holding off Windham, which came in a close third. The Blue Hawks host Central-West at 4 p.m. on Monday before traveling to Londonderry on Tuesday and then hosting Concord on Saturday. The Jaguars will take on Bedford at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, then head to Manchester Memorial on Wednesday and host Merrimack on Friday.

John Stark and Souhegan each moved up a spot to round out the top five and the two teams will face each other at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Amherst. The Generals also host Pembroke on Saturday, while the Sabers will head to ConVal on Friday.

Bedford dropped out of the top five for the first time this year, coming in sixth. After hosting Windham on Monday, the Bulldogs go to Nashua twice, taking on North on Wednesday and Bishop Guertin on Friday.

Dover and Portsmouth traded spots this week, with the Green Wave moving up to seventh. They go on the road twice this week, playing at Timberlane on Monday and at Merrimack on Wednesday, before hosting Nashua South on Friday. The Clippers, meanwhile, will try to stop a three-game skid, as they host Oyster River on Tuesday and then go to Goffstown on Friday.

Gilford held on to the ninth spot and the Golden Eagles will play two games this week, hosting Hopkinton on Wednesday and going to White Mountains on Friday. Concord remained at 10th and will travel to Keene on Monday, host Pinkerton on Friday and then go to Exeter on Saturday.
