Around the Granite State: Goffstown boys lacrosse holds off St. Thomas (video)

GOFFSTOWN – The Goffstown High School boys lacrosse team got goals from seven players Wednesday as the Grizzlies held off St. Thomas for a 7-5 win.

Carter Smedick had a goal and two assists for Goffstown (1-0) while Jason Matatall, Tyler Lessard and Taiden Wong-Zoll added a goal and an assist apiece.

Luke Napierkoski, Ben Hill and Kai Tupper also each had a goal, as the Grizzlies led 7-3 with 6:34 remaining before the Saints (1-1, No. 10 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll) made a late push. Nick Cote recorded 10 saves for Goffstown

Luke Daly had two goals and an assist to lead St. Thomas while Ryan Resch had a goal and an assist. Cooper Copeland and Harper Jellison added a goal apiece and Jake Moore finished with 15 saves.

No. 6 Derryfield 13, No. 8 Londonderry 8

Ryan Maxwell had four goals and three assists to lead the Cougars to a season-opening win over the Lancers.

Heath Mueller (two assist) and Dom Cercone (one) added three goals apiece while Vittorio Masoni scored twice and had an assist and Emerson Stover also had a goal.

Liam England finished with nine saves for Derryfield (1-0) and Jackson Hatfield was 13 of 20 on faceoffs.

Londonderry (0-2) got three goals and an assist from Brody Campbell while Aidan Stowell had two goals. Trey Campbell (one assist), Owen Huard and Austin Callahan also had a goal apiece.

Dylan MacDavis added an assist and Broch St. Gelais made eight saves.

Campbell 7, Hopkinton 5

Will O’Brien made 26 saves to help the Cougars picked up a win over the Hawks.

Eddie Mahoney scored two goals and had an assist while Tyler Breton and Matthew Decarli each scored twice for Campbell (2-0). Nate Roche added a goal and Evan Molino dished out two assists.

Windham 12, Nashua South 11 (OT)

Josh Trudel had two goals an two assists, including the 100th-goal of his career, as the Jaguars got the win over the Panthers

Sam Kramer led Windham (1-1) with five goals and Cameron Terry had four goals and an assist.

Evan Ardizzone added a goal and Ethan Peluso picked up an assist and had four caused turnovers. Nolan Lamb and Tyler DellOrfano recorded an assist apiece.

South (1-1) got five goals from Owen Roya while Grant Imbeault had two goals and three assists and Max Signoroni had three goals.

Tyler Benzekri added a goal and an assist while Cody Jackson had four assists and Joe Kudla had one assist.

No. 7 Winnacunnet 11, Concord 5

The Warriors bounced back from a tough season-opening loss to get a win over the Crimson Tide.

Alec Mitchell had two goals and an assist and was 13 of 19 on faceoffs while Burke Spalding (one assist) and Liam McNally had two goals apiece. Beckett Rath and Brian McCown each had a goal and two assists for Winnacunnet (1-1).

Spencer Zigler added a goal and an assist while Sully Duffy and Anthony Magri had a goal apiece. Chris Choquette had an assist and Joel Williams made eight saves.

Timberlane 13, Kingswood 8

Landon Petry had five goals and an assist to help the Owls pick up a win in the season-opener against the Knights.

Aidan Davern added three goals and three assists and Rocco Psareas had three goals and an assist. Gio Recesso also had a goal and an assist and Gavin Dubois scored for Timberlane.

Ryan Bazidane made five saves while Cole Rego had seven groundballs and Nicholas Vaccarezza had four groundballs.

Coe-Brown 16, Pelham 2

Seven players scored a goal for the Bears as they rolled to a win over the Pythons.

Robert Lee had four goals and two assists for Coe-Brown (2-0) while Myles Brackett had three goals and an assist and Joseph Fenton had two goals and three assists.

Glenn Papineau, Charles Frye (one assist) and Garrett Ward each had two goals and Tim Kerivan also scored. Jackson Alie and Miles Vega combined for three saves.

Pelham (0-2) got a goal apiece from Aiden Cote and Wil Jeknavorian. Jacoby Lee finished with 19 saves.

No. 5 Portsmouth 14, Souhegan 2

Trevor Sifferlan scored three goals and had an assist as the Clippers knocked off the Sabers.

Max Deneen added two goals and two assists and Jack Martin (one assist) and Sam Biddle had two goals apiece. Gus Baker, Braedan Pavlas, Caden Callahan and Henry Hyland each scored a goal for Portsmouth (2-0).

Chase Eberhardt and Ben Williams each added an assist and Cooper Feragamo made five saves. Andy Brown Will Lefavbre and Henry Dorely played well defensively.

Nate Hill and Rob Goodhue each had a goal and an assist for Souhegan (0-2). Harrison Towne finished with eight saves.

Gilford 6, Kennett 5 (OT)

Lucas Raleigh scored three goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as the Golden Eagles rallied from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Eagles.

Christien Nunez added two goals for Gilford while Emmet Hughes and Kael Weber each had six groundballs. Tim Macaione finished with 10 saves.

Laconia 6, John Stark 5

Paul Ganchi scored in the final minute of regulation to give the Sachems the win over the Generals.

Brady Keegan had three goals and an assist for Laconia (2-0) while Ganchi finished with two goals and Kam Theos also scored. Cam Lacroix and Emerson Duymazlar had an assist apiece.

Alex Prescott made 13 saves for the Sachems while Brecken O’Reilly, Ben Hogg, Braydon McMath and Chris Amato played well defensively, holding John Stark (1-1) scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Zach Perkins scored twice for the Generals while Miller Twobly had a goal and two assists and Cooper Twombly added a goal. Parker Hamel made 17 saves while Wyatt Puza, Shane Brunini (four groundballs) and Brady Borla each had two caused turnovers.

Laconia had a 3-2 lead at halftime but John Stark came back to go up 5-4 going into the fourth quarter.

Bow 11, Kearsarge 2

Sam Bennett scored three goals to lead the Falcons to a win in their season opener against the Cougars.

Wyatt Premo added two goals and two assists and Niko Mallios also scored twice for Bow. TJ Ingalls had a goal and two assists while Cam Czarnosz, Devon St. Cyr and Kian O’Leary had a goal apiece.

Parker Kazanowkis recorded two assists and Brad Ekstrom made 10 saves while Benny Reardon had an assist to go with 10 groundballs and four caused turnovers. Miles Miller was 17 of 19 on faceoffs.

Hanover 15, Alvirne 3

Sam Bagatell scored five goals and had two assists to lead the Bears to a win over the Broncos in their opener.

Michael Anderson added four goals and three assists while JJ Bornstein and Zachary McCarthy each had two goals and two assists for Hanover.

EJ Frechette also scored twice and had an assist while Alex Bolg had two assists.

Plymouth 12, Milford 0

Rocco Bartling made 16 saves for the Spartans in a loss to the Bobcats.

Girls Lacrosse

Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough 15, ConVal 3

Aubrey Bresse scored four goals to lead the Lakers to their first win of the season, against the Cougars.

Brynn Moore and Kate Taylor added three goals apiece and Brooke Taylor scored twice for ILMA (1-1). Makayla Peterson, Alyssa Snow and Summer Hamel chipped in with a goal apiece.

Lilly Sousa finished with five saves while the Lakers’ defense was solid.

No. 10 Merrimack 8, Goffstown 6

Jackie Hayes had three goals and three assists as the Tomahawks picked up a win over the Grizzlies.

Lyla Carls added two goals and an assist and Riley Taylor scored twice and had eight draw controls. Liv Mitchell also had a goal and Ava Woods added an assist while Sophia Richard made 10 saves for Merrimack (2-0).

Goffstown (0-2) got four goals and an assist from Trinity Lunn. Sydney Lavoie added a goal and two assists while Stella Enman had a goal and Ella Coletti had an assist.

No. 7 Nashua South 13, Salem 4

The Panthers got five goals from Carly Benzekri in a win over the Blue Devils.

Briley Landsteiner added three goals and three assists while Lexi McGuire had a goal and two assists and Wylie Hart had a goal and an assist for South (2-0). Isabelle Picanco, Gemma Williams and Molly Mullaney scored a goal apiece.

Emma Herlihy made five saves while Nitzann Alkalay, Maddie Langer, Hailey Cote, Karina Santana and Nichole DeJesus Roman played well defensively.

St. Thomas 15, Hopkinton 10

Talula Gregg had six goals for the Saints as they started the year with a win over the Hawks.

Charlotte De Tolla and Julia Bryan had three goals apiece while Lizzy Holden scored twice and Kate Kreycik also had a goal. Lucy Broom also played well on offense.

Reese Foss made eight saves in her first start in goal while Lena Shaheen and Izzy Taylor played well defensively.

Gilford 17, Belmont 6

The Red Raiders got 20 saves from goalie Shelby Mason but it wasn’t enough agains the Golden Eagles.

Brooke Varnum and Madi McClennan scored two goals apiece while Daylan Henry and Gabby Murphy each had a goal for Belmont (0-2). Grace Collins and Augusta Provencale played well defensively.

Timberlane 19, Kingswood 8

Lila Fitzgerald had six goals and an assist for the Owls as they picked up a win over the Knights.

Rylee Donahue added five goals and three assists to go with 16 draw controls while Julie Johnson had three goals five assists, two draw controls, five groundballs and a caused turnover.

Mia Morrier scored a goal and had an assist while Ava Paul and Alexa Ring (two caused turnovers) had a goal apiece and Grace Gerhard had an assist.

Emma Sarcione also played well defensively and Kayla Apitz made six saves.

Derryfield 19, Concord Christian 3

Maddy Paolino scored six goals and had an assist to lead the Cougars past the Kingsmen.

Finley Llewellyn had four goals and seven assists for Derryfield (2-0) while Reagan Ayers also scored four times. Chloe Larson added two goals and an assist to go with six groundballs while Kelsi Bremberg had a goal and an assist and Titi Latinwo and Katie Stonaker each scored.

Charlotte Belanger also had an assist, three draw controls and five groundballs. Noelanni Hunter made six saves and Taylor Bradley also played well defensively.

Trinity 20, Plymouth 18

The Pioneers went on the road to open the season, getting a win over the Bobcats.

Addison Moynihan led Trinity with 11 goals while Sadie Mungere and Sammy Raymond each had four goals, with Raymond scoring her first varsity goal.

Lily Ferdinando also had a goal in the win.
