Around the Granite State: Nashua South girls lacrosse scores late to beat Merrimack (video)

MERRIMACK – Carly Benzekri scored with under five minutes to play and the Nashua High School South girls lacrosse team held on for a 9-8 win over Merrimack on Thursday.

Benzekri scored four goals, with the game-winner coming with 4:29 remaining in the game, and the Panthers (5-1, No. 8 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll) won the ensuing draw and ran out the clock.

Lexi McGuire added two goals and two assists, including the tying goal with 5:48 to play, off an assist from Benzekri, while Gemma Williams had a goal and an assist and Wylie Hart had two assists. Briley Landsteiner and Olivia St. Hilaire had a goal apiece.

Emma Herlihy made sevens saves for the Panthers while Maddie Langer, Nicole DeJesus and Hailey Cote played well defensively.

Merrimack (4-2, No. 9) got four goals from Jackie Hayes, including one off a failed clear by South that gave the Tomahawks an 8-7 lead with 9:05 to play. Riley Taylor added two goals and two assists and Liv Mitchell also scored twice while Sophia Richard recorded the 100th save of her high school career.

The Tomahawks received their fourth yellow card with 6:43 remaining in the third quarter and played the final 18:43 down a player.

Goffstown 12, Kingswood 5

Sydney Lavoie scored four goals and had an assist to help give the Grizzlies the win over the Knights.

Mia Brisette added two goals and two assists, along with 11 draw controls, while Ella Coletti had two goals and an assist and Trinity Lunn scored twice for Goffstown (3-2).

Paige Winters chipped in with a goal and an assist and Stella Enman also scored while Yeimi Martinez recorded six saves.

Bow 13, St. Thomas 12 (OT)

The Saints lost a game to a division opponent for the first time in almost three years, falling to the Falcons in overtime on the road.

Talula Gregg scored five goals to lead St. Thomas (3-1) while Julia Bryan added three goals and Lizzy Holden scored twice. Charlotte De Tolla and Annita Parmelee added a goal apiece.

Reese Foss recorded nine saves in goal while Lena Shaheen and Charlotte Kelly played well on defense.

The loss snapped the Saints’ 37-game winning streak against D3 teams, with their last loss also coming to Bow in the title game in 2023. St. Thomas had also won 40-straight regular season games in the division, with the last loss to Gilford on May 1, 2023.

No. 2 Souhegan 17, Hollis Brookline 4

Izzy Stevenson scored five goals to help lead the Sabersto a victory over the Cavaliers.

Libby Kennedy added three goals and an assist to go with three groundballs and Stevenson also had two groundballs for Souhegan (3-1) while Lanai Hickman also had three goals and two assists.

Emmie Curran added two goals, two assists and two groundballs while Averie Curran had a goal and three assists and Meredith Heimarck scored twice, had an assist and four groundballs. Gwen Allen also scored and Abbey Gray had an assist while Eva Stiles, Sophie Jacobs, Maddy Behn and Emilia Koch played well.

Annie Zerega finished with four saves for the Sabers.

Boys Lacrosse

Kingswood 10, Hollis Brookline 9

Down two goals with under three minutes to play, the Knights rallied for a win over the Cavaliers.

Parker Aucoin scored the game-tying goal with 35 seconds remaining, and then after winning the ensuing faceoff, scored what proved to be the game-winner for Kingswood (3-1).

HB (2-3) got five goals from Mike O’Hearn while Sam Petrella and Bennett Torgersen each had two goals. Oliver Spencer also scored and Bryce Cote played well.

Tuler Allen was strong on defense and Levi Mitchell recorded 14 saves.

Pelham 10, Trinity 9

Aidan Cote scored four goals to lead the Pythons to a victory over the Pioneers.

CJ Sawyer added two goals and an assist and Will Jeknaviorian scored twice for Pelham (3-2). Chris Swiniarski and Dom Peranelli added a goal apeice while Sean Guarino was 17 of 25 on faceoffs.

Jake Chafe recorded 12 saves while Peranelli, Mark Waden and Caedan Baisley played well on defense.

No. 1 Bishop Guertin 13, Windham 3

Josh Trudel had two goals for the Jaguars but it wasn’t enough against the Cardinals.

Sam Kramer added two assists for Windham (3-2) and Cameron Terry also scored a goal. Jack Tanso recorded 22 saves.

Hopkinton 16, Bishop Brady 7

Raymond Weatherbee made 35 saves for the Giants but they came up short in their second meeting of the season with the Hawks.

Joey Richardson led Bishop Brady (1-3) with six goals while Ryan Haught also scored and Jonah VanderHooven had an assist.
